(Photo HemerotecaPL) The board of directors of the Congress of the Republic reported this Thursday, April 29 that the former deputy Baudilio Elinohet Hichos López Hichos has died, died at the age of 68, has occupied for several legislatures the representation of the Chiquimula district in the Congress of the Republic. He took office in 1991 and was part of the National Union for Change (UCN) and the defunct Guatemalan Republican Front (RFA) and Renovated Democratic Freedom (Leader). In June 2015, the public prosecutor filed a complaint against Hichos for irregularities in the construction of a clinic of the Guatemalan Institute of Social Security in Chiquimula. According to the investigation, Hichos would have provided a lease that would serve the IGSS, for approximately 2 million Q2. Hichos left his seat on January 14, 2016 after the actions of the prosecution and because he did not maintain his immunity. He was a fugitive for months and in October 2019 he was linked to a process of influence peddling, although he was granted a financial guarantee. On October 23, 2020, the special prosecutor against impunity acted against the closure of the case, a judge having decided that Hichos should not be tried.
