With prices rising to their highest level in 40 years, many are taking second or third jobs to make ends meet. But it has also led to young people posting pornography on sites like OnlyFans for money alongside their day jobs. According to the British prostitute collective, they told Radio 1 Newsbeat they were getting more calls about young women joining the site because of the rising cost of living.
The campaign has warned those posting sexually explicit content online they could risk working long hours, being abused or even being stalked. Alexia* is 20 years old. She said she recently volunteered at four different sites, including OnlyFans.
“Even a few hundred more a month is a huge sum for me. Paying an unexpected bill might help, like I got a £400 bill from council last month, so Without this bill, I may not be able to pay,” she said, who started posting videos and pictures of herself during the first national lockdown after losing her job in restaurants.
Alexia now works 9 to 5 days in the office, sometimes 6 days a week, and publishes content online. “I don’t think people realize how hard work it actually is. If you look at the screen time on my phone, it’s ridiculous. It’s 17 hours a day,” she said.
